However, experts have now hailed one very cheap product that can ‘transform’ your toilet, banishing those pesky stains for good.
The pros at have named an effective and budget-friendly solution to tackle this common issue of limescale in the toilet.

Limescale, mainly composed of calcium carbonate, accumulates in areas with hard water.
In toilets, it appears as unsightly brown or green stains that can be difficult to remove with standard cleaning methods. Over time, these deposits not only damage the appearance of your bathroom but can also lead to plumbing issues if left untreated.
Clare from Bust the Dust recommends a simple yet powerful method to eliminate limescale: using cola. This popular beverage contains acids like citric, tartaric, and phosphoric, which are effective in dissolving limescale without the need for harsh chemicals.

To do this, you’ll need one 2-litre bottle of full-sugar cola, which you can pick up from and for as little as 70p. You’ll also need a toilet brush for scrubbing after treatment, and protective gloves for hygiene purposes.
Begin by removing as much water as possible from the toilet bowl. This can be done by turning off the water supply and flushing the toilet, or by using a cup to scoop out the water. Reducing the water level allows the cola to concentrate on the limescale deposits.
Pour the entire 2-litre bottle of cola directly into the toilet bowl, ensuring it covers the stained areas.
Allow the cola to sit in the bowl overnight. The acids in the cola will work to break down the limescale during this time.
The following morning, put on your protective gloves and use the toilet brush to scrub the bowl, focusing on areas with persistent stains.
Once you’ve scrubbed the bowl thoroughly, flush the toilet to rinse away the loosened limescale and any remaining cola.
