Legendary actor Michael Caine leads calls for general election vote as he shares petition

Acting legend is leading calls for a fresh General Election just months after Labour’s landslide victory in July.

As a petition calling for the dissolution of Parliament hit the two million milestone this morning, the Italian Job actor shared a link to the petition on X.

He wrote: “Call a General Election – Petitions.” Michael’s upload has since garnered plenty of attention, with more than 440 reposts and over 1,400 likes in minutes.

Fans flocked to the comments to praise the star, with one writing: “I knew there’s a reason I like you so much.”

While someone else penned: “Blow their bloody doors off, Sir Michael!” Another added: “People are sick of Labour’s lies, gaslighting and broken promises.”

The petition was started by businessman Michael Westwood, who, at the weekend, voiced his anger at what he sees a “betrayal” of the British electorate.

Mr Westwood’s description of the petition, carried on the Government’s website, says: “I would like there to be another General Election.

“I believe the current Labour Government have gone back on the promises they laid out in the lead up to the last election.”

Caine isn’t the only famous face sharing the petition. It was only started on November 20, but reached the latest milestone having been shared by X boss .

Yesterday, posted on his X account: “This petition has already reached 750,000 signatures in 24 hours. It won’t be long before it passes 1 million. I’ve never seen anything like it.”

It comes as slams the petition, suggesting the country should have another EU referendum as well. The former Countdown star and long-time Remoaner took to social media platform X to voice her anger at the “right wingers stamping their feet”.

She wrote: “Right wingers stamping their feet saying call a General Election. Tell you what …. Let’s have a Rejoin the EU referendum at the same time? Six million people signed that petition.”

The Government is obliged to respond to all petitions that garner more than 10,000 signatures. Any petition that amasses over 100,000 signatures will be considered for a debate in Parliament, although this is not guaranteed.

MPs are also rallying the public to sign the petition to express their frustration with Starmer’s leadership. , the party’s deputy leader, urged: “Let’s make this the biggest petition ever in the UK – sign, share, and spread the word.”
