during winter is a common issue in homes and vehicles and needs to be dealt quickly due to its harmful effects on health.

It is caused when warm, moist air comes into contact with cold surfaces. The colder the surface, the more likely water vapour in the air will condense into liquid.

While it’s a natural phenomenon, excessive condensation can lead to discomfort and problems like mold growth or damage to materials.

spores and increased humidity can aggravate respiratory conditions and allergies.

It is believed that those living in newer properties are likely to face increased condensation issues since a three-bedroom house can absorb as much as 7,000 litres of water during construction, which is released as it dries.

Activities like cooking, showering, and even breathing release moisture into the air, which can lead to higher humidity levels indoors.

One cost-free way to improve ventilation is by regularly cleaning your extractor fans to ensure they operate effectively.

These highly useful fans remove steam and excess moisture from the air, making them particularly valuable in kitchens and bathrooms after cooking or showering.

Good ventilation also promotes more even heat distribution throughout your home and can help prevent expensive damage to paintwork, window fittings, and curtains.

Graeme Bowen, a window and door solutions expert told The Scottish Sun: “As the colder months approach, it’s natural to be concerned about opening windows due to heat loss and rising energy bills. Especially with the recent energy price cap increase.

“However, proper ventilation can actually help distribute heat more evenly throughout your home.”
