Why only one I’m A Celebrity star was ever allowed smoke breaks in ITV jungle

returned for its 24th series last week which boasts a stellar lineup including N-Dubz star Tulisa, Coleen Rooney and Danny Jones.

Every year the celebrity campmates are put through their paces to live in the gruelling conditions in the jungle with only the soft sounds of creepy crawlies and their snoring co-stars to keep them company at night.

The stars are forced into nail-biting Bushtucker trials where they overcome their fears in order to achieve stars and earn meals for the camp.

Over the years, TV bosses have cracked down on several rules in the famous camp, including banned items being snuck into camp and the introduction of a modesty smock for stars to wear when changing clothes.

But another minefield producers face each year is how to accommodate for celebrities who smoke. Back in 2018, ITV bosses banned exposure of smoking on screen in order to stop promoting an unhealthy habit.

This often means stars will have a lot of restrictions placed on them when they want to light up. However, there was one star who was apparently able to leverage his legendary status to gain some special treatment regarding his smoking breaks.

Back in 2016, the Australian version of the reality show, former cricketer won over the nation with his charming smile and his cheeky sense of humour.

During an interview with Dr Chris Brown on KIIS FM last year, the star claimed the sportsman managed to win over bosses to get special treatment on the programme.

He revealed: “There’s rules for Warnie and there’s rules for everyone else. No one else has ever got the privileges that Warnie got.”

The sports personality, who was known to be a heavy smoker and often spoke openly about his nicotine addiction, was given special “smoko” breaks during his time in the jungle.

Brown went on: “He is the only one that has ever been able to have special Warnie time.” The late cricketer eventually lasted 41 days in the camp, finishing in fifth place after he was eliminated from the camp – which was based in South Africa.

It comes after the cricketer admitted that he had signed a $200,000 (£103,000) deal with nicotine substitute manufacturer Nicorette to quit smoking for four months. However, Warner was caught enjoying a smoke months before the deal was due to end.

Admitting to The Age at the time: “I had one cigarette in the West Indies and the Nicorette people know about that. It was late at night when I had had a night out with the lads.

“I was very disappointed at having it and hopefully I can still try to kick the habit. It’s been a bloody lot harder than I thought.” Warne sadly passed away in 2022 from a heart attack while he was on holiday in Thailand at the age of 52.
