fans are certain they’ve worked out who’s returning to the soap next – and it could rip one couple apart.
In recent months, viewers were treated to the return of Ross Barton, who faced off against Billy Fletcher in an illegal fighting ring in full view of his son Moses. A month before that, his mum Emma returned as a figment of Moira Dingle’s brain tumour – with her late daughter Holly making a cameo this month.
Fans now think they’ve spotted a clear pattern, and know who could be coming back next.
Taking to to air their theories, one fan said: “Guess who’s back. September – Emma appeared. October – Ross returned. November – Holly appeared. December – Pete [Barton] shall return.” They added: “It’s been a Barton revival recently and after tonight I think Ross is gonna need his brother.”
It could spell disaster for one established couple on the soap, as other users predicted Pete could end up with someone who’s already in a relationship. One user said: “He’d deffo have an affair with someone as well. Who this time? Chas? Charity? GABBY?!”

Ross Barton recently made his Emmerdale return – and his brother could follow
Charity is finally settled down with Mackenzie Boyd, while Chas is in the early stages of a romance with Liam Cavanagh – and Gabby is coupled up with Vinny Dingle after the death of his wife Liv.
Some fans aren’t happy about the potential return of “whiny” Pete, as one moaned: “Of all the families to bring back, does it really have to be the Bartons? The only one I ever liked was the brother they killed off!”
“Whatever. Mind you he’s eye candy, which has been lacking in for some time now,” somebody else said. As another social media user posted: “All he did was whine to be honest.”
Anthony Quinlan could return as Pete Barton
Another said: “I hope not. I couldn’t stand the whiny lump. He was so wet you could wring him out.”
Pete left the soap in 2020, faced with grieving the death of his dad James and brother Finn. Deciding to move on and move to Liverpool to be with Ross, he drove out of the village for good that February. But with Ross back in Yorkshire, could it spell a return for Pete too?
