Police say they are recommending criminal charges. Officers responded to a 911 call just after 10 p.m. to Cambie Street and West 12th Avenue.

Investigators allege a man used a device to light a fire outside an entrance. The building was closed to the public at the time.

Police say a witness intervened to stop the fire from spreading. Officers then arrested a 36-year-old man nearby.

The man is not believed to be a Vancouver resident and the motive for the incident remains under investigation.

A 78-year-old man was charged with arson and several other criminal offences in relation to that case. Police also said they did not know the motive for that arson.
