Brits are being warned to prepare for heavy rain, winds, and snow

The has put in place yellow weather warnings this weekend, including seven on Saturday.

The same also applies to Cornwall, Devon, and areas of the southwest including Somerset and Dorset.

Much of northern England has also been placed under yellow weather warnings.

An amber alert for heavy snow is also in place for much of northern Scotland between 7am and 5pm on Saturday.

Forecasts suggest there could be between 10-20cm in some areas and between 20-40cm in higher areas.

Southwest England and Wales have been warned that they could see 100mm of rain on higher ground.

deputy chief meteorologist Dan Holley said: “Storm Bert marks a shift to much milder air and wintry hazards will gradually diminish through the weekend, but heavy snowfall is expected across parts of northern England and Scotland for a time on Saturday, especially over higher ground, and warnings are in place.

“Heavy rain through Saturday and Sunday, especially in southern and western parts of the UK, will also bring impacts for some with a number of warnings in place.

“In addition, rapid melting of lying snow over the weekend and periods of strong winds are likely to exacerbate impacts and bring the potential for travel disruption, as well as flooding for some.”

The adverse weather could continue into next week but temperatures are expected to rise by then.
