Not many fans will know that star Melvin Odoom, 44, has a sister who is also famous.

Yonah Odoom, 42, graduated from the University of in 2004 with a BA Hons’ Degree in media performance and pursued a career in marketing.

However, Yonah’s career path changed following a chance audition for the play Blood Wedding, where her passion for acting was ignited.

This led Yonah to follow her childhood dream of becoming a full-time actress and she joined the Actors Centre London. Her breakthrough role came in 2013 when she made her debut on .

Yonah portrayed Mrs Piper, the mum of the villainous Grace Piper (played by Ella-Grace Gregoire).

Melvin proudly celebrated his sister’s appearance in the soap on social media, sharing: “Very proud of my sister @YonahOdoom who made her debut appearance on #Coronationstreet tonight!! #gracesmum.”

Yonah appeared in Channel 4’s Hollyoaks the following year, starring as the vicar who officiated the wedding ceremony of Tony Hutchinson (Nick Pickard) and Diane O’Connor (Alex Fletcher).

She also landed a role in Channel 4 comedy The Windsors, where she was credited as Mary Royal Guest.

Yonah has made her mark on both TV and stage, portraying heroic civil rights activist Rosa Parks in the 2010 theatre production of We Stand on Giants’ Shoulders.

The actress described it as the most rewarding part she has played in her career so far, according to IMDB.

Yonah has also starred in YOMO: You Only Marry Once, a comedy which follows two young women as they navigate living and dating in London.

Opening up about her inspiration for the series with Face2FaceAfrica, she said: “My co-creator Moshana Khan and I met nine years ago, when we joined a theatre group and we have pretty much been joined at the hip ever since.

“Over the years, we have shared many of our acting, dating and cultural experiences, which have often mirrored each other.”

They found themselves struggling to keep up with the fast-paced dating scene in London, while also feeling pressure from their parents to marry.

Eventually, they made “some lemonade with those lemons” and based the show on their own “dating diaries”.
