Gatwick Airport LIVE: Hundreds evacuated after ‘security incident’

Hundreds of passengers have been evacuated from Gatwick Airport’s South Terminal following a “security incident”.

Police are at the scene, with reports of severe delays to flights.

A spokesperson for the Gatwick Express said on X: ” will not be served until further notice. This is due to the Police and emergency services dealing with an incident at the airport.”

Videos from the scene show passengers being rushed out of the terminal since around 10.27am.

Emergency services ‘in attendance’

National Highways has advised motorists travelling to Gatwick to expect severe delays, “emergency services [are] in attendance.”

Gatwick statement: ‘Large part of South Terminal evacuated’

London said in a statement on social media: “A large part of the South Terminal has been evacuated as a precaution while we continue to investigate a security incident.

“Passengers will not be able to enter the South Terminal while this is ongoing. Safety and security of our passengers and staff remains our top priority.

“We are working hard to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.”

‘Thousands all over the streets’ as airport shut down

SportsPro CEO Nick Meacham posted on X: “Arrived at London Gatwick for routine connection. Got through customs to find out they’re evacuating the entire airport.

“Even people through security are being taken outside. Trains shut down and 1000’s of all over the streets and carparks waiting.”

X user shared video of crowds gathered outside the airport

X user Marco Pajo shared a video of throngs of people huddled in the cold outside the airport.
