Nelson will be back for the Christmas special
Death In Paradise is set to deliver a twist with the return of Dwayne’s father, Nelson, this Christmas.
Fans can anticipate the arrival of Detective Inspector Don Gilet as DI Mervin Wilson joins the lineup this Christmas, stepping in for the departed DI Neville Parker (portrayed by Ralf Little) who has ventured off around the Caribbean with Florence Cassell.
Confirmation has arrived that Nelson will make his way back to the island. Viewers recollect Dwayne’s own comeback in the last series after Marlon Pryce’s abrupt departure to support his sibling’s plan to head to Jamaica to study.
Commissioner Selwyn Patterson and DS Naomi Thomas gave Dwayne a warm reception upon his return to the team, although his past beau Darlene Curtis appeared less enthused. When meeting up with his colleagues, Dwayne let slip that his father would also be joining them on Saint Marie shortly, but he had decided to go first to lend a hand to the local police.

Danny John-Jules is back as Dwayne Myers
Dwayne confided in Darlene later, explaining his father’s ill health prompted their return to Saint Marie. He was overheard on a call saying, “Really? I understand doc,” yet when Darlene probed about his father’s condition, Dwayne responded that he would arrive tomorrow.
Facing further inquiry about the doctor’s exact words, Dwayne conceded: “The old goat doesn’t have as much life left in him as I’ve been making out, but that’s why I’m really back. This is where he wants to spend the rest of his days.”
However, could it be that Dwayne’s return is motivated by something else entirely?
Death in Paradise is returning for a Christmas special
We know he shares a close bond with his father, but women have been the central focus for Dwayne in past series. Could Darlene be the real reason for Dwayne’s comeback?
In the upcoming Christmas episode, Don Warrington will reprise his role as Commissioner Selwyn Patterson, alongside Shantol Jackson (DS Naomi Thomas), Ginny Holder as Officer Darlene Curtis, Danny John-Jules as Officer Dwayne Myers and Elizabeth Bourgine as Catherine Bordey.
This holiday season, viewers can anticipate Mervin (Don Gilet) stirring up some drama as he attempts to crack the case of three unrelated men, all found murdered while dressed in Santa Claus outfits. His unconventional investigative approach doesn’t quite mesh with the team, while Dwayne faces personal issues when his Christmas with his father doesn’t go as planned – but what exactly transpires?
Death In Paradise’s Christmas special will air this December on One and iPlayer.
