Ginger Gaetz, wife of former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), drew some social media snickering Thursday in response to a post she made in support of her husband’s decision to withdraw from consideration to be the next attorney general.
Gaetz took to X, formerly Twitter, to celebrate (?) her husband’s decision with a photo of the two of them on the steps of the U.S. Capitol. She captioned it: “The end of an era.”
Gaetz also offered her support to her husband directly, commenting “Nobody loves America more than you” ― plus heart-hands emoji, naturally ― on his post announcing his withdrawal.
Matt Gaetz married the former Ginger Luckey in August 2021, right around the time he was first under investigation as part of a sex trafficking probe. (Gaetz denied the allegations and was never charged, and the case was eventually dropped.)
His announcement on Thursday came just minutes before CNN published a report alleging that he’d had a second sexual encounter with a 17-year-old girl in 2017. So people were a little caught off guard by the elegiac tone of his wife’s post.
And, yes, there was snark.
