A new interactive map has highlighted the areas in which motorists are at the highest , according to from the past three years.

is a growing problem across the UK, with more than 133,000 cases of cars, vans, and motorcycles being in the 12 months leading up to July 2024.

According to figures obtained via local police forces from Freedom of Information (FOI) requests, the 10 areas where drivers have the are all in London.

In particular, the Inner London Borough of Newham had the highest odds for over three years at 46/1, with 217 thefts taking place for every 10,000 vehicles on the road.

However, Newham has seen a drop in car crime reports, with 1,566 occurring during 2024, compared to 1,815 the previous year.

Other parts of London also ranked high on the list, including the neighbouring area of Tower Hamlets, which featured odds of 47/1 and 211 vehicles stolen for every 10,000 on the road.

Barking and Dagenham, and Hackney came joint third with odds of 58/1, whereas nearby Haringey featured a vehicle theft risk of 61/1.

In most cases, areas on the outskirts of the capital featured the lowest car crime rates for London, however central parts such as Westminster and City of London scored low, with more motorists choosing to leave their car behind and take public transport.

Whilst the 10 worst areas for car crime were all located in London, the map showcases a number of other hotspots throughout England and Wales.

Over the three years, Birmingham saw a high rate of car crime, with the odds of a resident’s car being stolen at 85/1. The data found that the West Midlands city has experienced 118 thefts for every 10,000 vehicles.

Manchester also featured particularly high odds at 122/1, followed by Liverpool and Oldham, where drivers have a 130/1 risk of getting their car stolen over a three-year period.
