BBC has offered Gavin and Stacey enthusiasts a sneak peek into what they can anticipate for the final episode. The concluding episode was confirmed earlier this year, with James Corden sharing the thrilling news with fans on social media.
The forthcoming Christmas special is predicted to witness the comeback of most of the original cast including Matthew Horne (Gavin Shipman), Joanna Page (Stacey Shipman), Alison Steadman (Pam Shipman ), Larry Lamb (Mick Shipman) and Rob Brydon (Bryn West).
As the finale approaches, the has hinted at the storyline for the new episode. “It’s been five years since we left Nessa down on one knee declaring her love for Smithy and asking him to marry her. And a lot has happened since then,” the synopsis for the upcoming episode states.
It goes on: “In Barry, Bryn’s packing the Picasso in readiness for a trip to Essex; Stacey and Gavin are looking for new ways to spice up their seventeen year marriage and Gwen is behaving most strangely. Nessa’s started a new business venture and Neil the Baby’s about to begin an apprenticeship with his dad.”
“Over in Billericay Pam is stressing out at the prospect of playing hostess, not helped by a newly retired Mick practising his golf swings in the living room and there have been more ups and downs in Pete and Dawn’s relationship.”
Gavin and Stacey originally ran for three seasons from 2007 until 2010
There are also whispers about Sheridan Smith making an appearance. She hasn’t portrayed Rudi Smith on the show since 2009.
The upcoming episode will be a direct continuation of the 2019 Christmas special, which attracted over 17 million viewers on its initial broadcast, making it the most-watched TV episode in ten years.
