is already among world football’s top earners with his £375,000-a-week salary at – and that’s before a likely blitz of bonuses. But the Norwegian goalscorer is reportedly being lined up for an even more lucrative contract at the Etihad Stadium, with attempts to secure his future thought to be underway.

City have agreed a new one-year deal with , according to various reports. The Catalan coach will remain in Manchester until at least 2026, with the option of extending his stay by 12 months.

And now the champions are said to have turned their attention towards convincing Haaland to join Guardiola in signing fresh terms.

According to , City are set to accelerate their attempts to tie the 24-year-old striker down by preparing a jaw-dropping £100million pay package.

Haaland still has two-and-a-half years left on his current £375,000-a-week wages, which earn him over £20m every season before bonuses and other sources of income.

He has proven worth the eye-watering investment to sign him from Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer in 2022, smashing countless records domestically and in Europe.

Barcelona and Real Madrid have been credited with an interest in Haaland, which has posed the question of whether Guardiola’s future could determine his own.

Those suggestions strengthened during the November international break when Norway’s talisman publicly called for the City boss to sign on.

“I hope Pep signs a new contract. He has been important for me in the first two-and-a-half years. I hope he stays longer. I like Pep a lot and hope he likes me, too,” Haaland explained.

City chiefs will hope Guardiola’s decision to stay in charge for at least one more season after the current campaign will push Haaland closer to following suit.

The report adds that an extension would see the towering frontman pocket a nine-figure sum across the four or five years the deal would cover.

The looming case of the ‘s 115 charges against City for alleged breaches of financial rules may prove problematic.

However, Guardiola’s decision to remain faithful to City could hint at the club’s confidence that they will emerge triumphant from their investigation.

In the meantime, the Citizens need Haaland to continue scoring as start edging away at the summit.
