Ellen DeGeneres’ time in America might have come to its series finale.

The former talk show host and her wife, actor Portia de Rossi, have reportedly left the country, putting their Montecito, California, estate on the market. Sources told The Wrap and TMZ the couple’s departure was directly related to Vice President Kamala Harris losing her bid for the White House.

Degeneres moved to the Cotswolds, a rural region in the United Kingdom, The Wrap reported.

In her 2024 Netflix special, DeGeneres said that she’s been “kicked out of show business” for being “mean,” referencing the allegations of a “toxic work environment” that plagued her daytime show. The comedian also described herself as “the most hated person in America” at the time.

DeGeneres isn’t the first major celebrity we’ve seen take their leave of this country. Recently, Texas-bornactor Eva Longoria shared her own reasons for leaving California after spending her “whole adult life” there. Longoria, who said she and her family now split their time between Mexico and Spain, stated that “the vibe” in California had drastically changed since the 2010s.

“And then Covid happened, and it pushed it over the edge,” she told Marie Claire for a cover story published last week. “Whether it’s the homelessness or the taxes, not that I want to shit on California — it just feels like this chapter in my life is done now.”

For Longoria, the recent presidential election proved to her that she made the correct choice.

“I’m privileged,” the actor continued. “I get to escape and go somewhere. Most Americans aren’t so lucky. They’re going to be stuck in this dystopian country, and my anxiety and sadness is for them.”

Both Longoria and DeGeneres were vocal supporters of Harris. According to TMZ, DeGeneres publicly endorsed Harris when she was picked to replace Joe Biden and also donated to Harris’ campaign.
