Chelsea star Reece James breaks silence in emotional statement after latest injury setback

captain has spoken of his determination to overcome his latest injury after confirming he has suffered another setback.

The 24-year-old made his comeback in October from a length period out after undergoing hamstring surgery during the second half of the 2023-24 campaign.

James started the 2-1 defeat to and stayed in ‘s team for the next two games before dropping to the bench against . He came on for eight minutes in the 1-1 draw with the Gunners at Stamford Bridge.

But during his press conference on Thursday, boss Maresca confirmed James had been ruled out with another hamstring problem and would miss the trip to Leicester on Saturday.

Now James has opened up about his emotions as he faces another spell on the sidelines – and hinted he could be out for longer than first thought.

“Hello all, I hope and wish you’re all well,” James posted on his Story, which had a blue background.

“This message is to the people that understand & have respect for what I’m going through… I appreciate you so much, your support and kind messages go further than you could ever imagine.

“And just to touch on me… I’m doing okay, been better and also been worse. Another challenge ahead accepted. Eventually I’ll come out on top. Against all odds.

“Lastly I’d like to touch on the festive period coming, these times are tough for everyone! I wish you all a happy and peaceful festive season.”

James, who was spotted taking pictures with fans during the international break watching England’s rugby team at Twickenham, has endured a horrendous period of struggling with muscle problems.

The Cobham academy graduate has played 162 games for the Blues since making his debut in August 2020. However, hamstring issues have plagued him over the past two seasons.

The England international made only 10 appearances last term and managed 16 in 2022-23, with signing Malo Gusto to provide cover at right-back 18 months ago.

It seemed as if he might have escaped the worst of his issues after making the decision to have surgery, which ruled him out for five months. But he is now set for another period of recovery in the physio room.
