has shared that he will no longer be performing world tours. The 79-year-old singing sensation shared a huge career announcement as he promised he “has no desire of retiring” but will be doing less.

Posting to his account, the shared a statement to announce his plans. He wrote: “This will be the end of large-scale world tours, but I have not desire to retire.

“I love what I do and I do what I love.” He added a red loveheart emoji before continuing: “I’m fit, I have a full head of hair and can run 100 metres in 18 seconds at the jolly old age of 79.”

Speaking more about his career plans for the future, Sir Rod continued: “I’d like to move onto a Great American Songbook, Swing Fever tour the year after next – smaller venues and more intimacy. But then again, I may not…”

Fans flocked to the comments of the post as they wished the singer well, while others were gutted that they may never get the chance to see him perform again.

One wrote: “Glad I got to see you so many times in Ireland and what has now become your last one. Enjoy all that life brings you and yours xx”

Another said: “Do whatever suits you Rod, only you know your limits. You will always be the best. Xx”

“I pray I get to see you in New England next summer! I saw you 30 years ago and you were amazing then!” a third penned, while a fourth commented: “Thank you for all you have done and best of luck on what you are still going to do.”

Many others simply left emojis with hearts and tears as they responded to the announcement.

Stewart is among the best-selling music artists of all time, having sold more than 120 million records worldwide. His music career began in 1962, when he took up busking with a harmonica.

Recently, the singer sparked concern as he was forced to cancel some tour dates due to health issues. Back in August, Rod admitted he was “absolutely gutted” to have to cancel an upcoming show after doctors diagnosed the rocker with strep throat.

In a recent interview, he said that his “days are numbered” but he has “no fear”. The legendary pop star added: “We have all got to pass on at some point, so we are all in the same basket. I am going to be enjoying myself for these last few years as much as I can.

“I say few — probably another 15. I can do that easy mate, easy.”
