developer Blizzard has made a surprise announcement, confirming plans to make a new character available to play later this week.

Ahead of the launch of Season 14 next month, fans can try out new hero Hazard for a limited time only.

The trial for new Tank hero Hazard has a November 22 release date and a 6pm GMT UK release time.

A great excuse to check out Overwatch 2 this weekend, the limited-time trial period runs until the same time just a few days later, ending on November 25.

The news was announced by Blizzard on X (formerly Twitter), alongside a cinematic video showcasing the new hero and some of his abilities.

“It’s looking like a revolution!” reads an Blizzard tweet.

“Discover what Overwatch’s newest Tank Hero, Hazard, and his fellow Phreaks, a faction known for their punk and revolutionary spirit, have been up to in the latest Hero Trailer, and play as Hazard for a limited time Nov 22-25.”

Similar to Barret from Final Fantasy 7, Hazard has a huge gun attached to his arm, which can be used to fire shards.

Not much else is known about the character’s abilities, although he appears to be able to call down spikes and potentially create barriers.

Daily Express will update this article with the full list of abilities when they’re announced by Blizzard. Indeed, it’s likely Blizzard will post a gameplay preview ahead of Hazard’s launch.

Unless Blizzard encounters any major bugs during the test weekend, Hazard should launch in full as part of Season 14.

Overwatch 2 Season 14 is expected to have a December 10 release date on , , Nintendo Switch and PC.

In addition to the launch of a new character, Season 14 will also feature tests for 6v6 multiplayer.

The first test will take place a week into the new season. Blizzard explains more: “The first, launching a week into the season, will look a little different than the standard 2-2-2 role-queued from Overwatch.

Part of this series of tests is to not only judge our player’s appetite for larger team sizes, but for us to explore different ways that we might implement a change without running into the same problems we had previously.

“With that in mind, our first test will be a variation of Open Queue, which we’re internally referring to as “Min 1, Max 3”: each team of 6 must have at least 1 of each role, and no more than 3.”

The second test will use the “classic 2-2-2 composition but will incorporate some new principles we introduced with Overwatch 2”.
