Much like the Rockefeller Christmas Tree, a seasonal favorite has returned for the holidays.
On Nov. 20, McDonald’s announced that the McRib will be returning to participating restaurants starting Dec. 3, for a limited time. In addition to the return of the polarizing die-cast sandwich, the Golden Arches is dropping A Whole Lotta McRib Sauce, a half-gallon jug of tangy sandwich sauce that folks can use on whatever they wish.
As a reminder, the McRib features seasoned boneless pork dipped in McRib sauce topped with slivered onions and sliced pickles on a toasted bun.
People curious about the term “boneless pork” will perhaps not be relieved that the McRib is made out of “restructured boneless pork patty,” according to sources, which is a bewilderingly mechanical way of saying it’s made of ground pork molded into its distinctive pork rib-esque shape.
The McRib will be available to order in the McDonald’s app, in-restaurant and at the drive-thru, and customers can buy A Whole Lotta McRib Sauce for $19.99 online only at www.wholelottamcribsauce.com starting Nov. 25 at 10 a.m. ET, while supplies last.
“The McRib is more than a sandwich — it’s a part of culture, it’s a legend, it’s an event,” said Tariq Hassan, chief marketing and customer experience officer at McDonald’s, in a press release. “McRib SZN is a holiday unto itself, so we wanted to embrace that spirit and give fans an even bigger way to celebrate this year with A Whole Lotta McRib Sauce.”
McDonald’s tried to make us all think that November 2022 was the sandwich’s “Farewell Tour,” but it, of course, returned in 2023.
