There’s no better way to get into the festive spirit than heading to a Christmas market, and while your local one may be rather expensive, there are some cheaper ones that you could consider jetting off to instead.

With this in mind, investment platform Saxo has revealed the cheapest European Christmas markets by looking at flights from London, a beer at the market, a bottle of wine, a meal for two and the cost of a one-night stay in a hotel.

Coming out at the top of the list is the Polish city of Poznan, which hosts an annual market in the Old Market Square.

Flights from London to Poznan can cost as little as £28, and the average cost of a hotel stay for one night will only set you back £31.33.

And the low prices don’t stop there, with beer costing just 79p and a bottle of wine just £4.87.

It’s not just the Christmas market that you can visit while in Poznan; other highlights include the Croissant Museum, HistoryLand (a museum detailing the history’s country through the use of LEGO models), and the stunning Poznan Cathedral Of St Peter And Paul.

The Christmas market starts on 19 November in the city’s Old Market Square and consists of around 70 market stalls selling everything from traditional and locally made gifts to traditional festive food and Christmas decorations.

Previous visitors have been left delighted, with one TripAdvisor user writing: “Lovely place went for the Christmas market and we were not disappointed. Also had ice sculpture going on there which were great to watch. The market is well worth a visit and great for children.”
