A motoring expert has warned drivers that they could soon face after a new study found that 63% of Brits are unaware of .
Whilst vehicles are a lot more reliable than they once were, all cars to maintain power and and from developing.
Tim Rodie, an automotive expert at the used vehicle retailer , highlighted that drivers looking to cut down on the cost of running a car should make routine maintenance their business.
He explained: “It’s surprising to learn that so many motorists lack confidence when it comes to completing basic car maintenance tasks and don’t feel that it’s their responsibility to know how to make these checks themselves at home.
“Ultimately, as road users we all have a responsibility to keep on top of our car maintenance and make sure that our vehicles are safe and roadworthy.”

More than half of UK drivers feel uncomfortable about topping up their car with engine oil
According to a survey of more than 1,000 drivers from across the country, Motorpoint found that a wide range of Brits do not feel comfortable checking various components instrumental in keeping a car on the road.
Whilst 81% of drivers are happy checking an engine’s oil level, more than half would feel uncomfortable about topping up the vital fluid. Moreover, 25 % of motorists also said that they were not sure they would be able to check their vehicle’s tyres.
With the cost of various motoring costs on the rise, this lack of knowledge could lead to some drivers avoiding routine maintenance, which could put their car at risk of accidents and breakdowns that cost thousands to put right.

Drivers should also regularly check their tyre tread depths with a 20p coin to prevent skidding
To help drivers feel more confident about servicing their vehicle, Tim recommended that motorists begin by checking their tyre tread depths using a 20p coin.
He continued: “Legally, all cars must have a minimum of 1.6mm thread across the central 75% of any tyre surface. While tyres will typically be checked when you get your car serviced, motorists are responsible for checking they have a safe amount of tread.
“The easiest way to do this quickly at home is to take a 20p piece and insert it into the grooves on each of your tyres – if you can’t see the outer band on the coin then you’re above the legal limit and are safe to drive.”
Tim also urged all drivers to check their vehicle’s oil level at least once per month, topping it up if necessary.
He added: “It is easily overlooked, but engine oil is vital to minimise friction and keep your vehicle running smoothly.
“Motor oil keeps the inner workings of your car clean and reduces corrosion which can help your car stay in great shape for longer. Be sure to check your oil once a month or before any long journeys as a part of your car maintenance checklist.”
