On the Tesco website, the oven cleaning product has received a 4.2-star rating out of five, with some reviewers claiming it makes cleaning ovens “so much easier”.

One reviewer said: “Oven Pride makes a horrible job so much easier. I soak the shelves overnight in the bag as instructed and spread the gel over the bottom of the oven (I’ve got self-cleaning sides to my oven so don’t touch them). In the morning you can just wash the gel off and it has melted all the grease and grime, amazing stuff, the best on the market.”

Another wrote: “Brilliant oven cleaner. I would not use anything else.”

However, one reviewer who gave the product only one star said it was “useless”. They wrote: “I tried to use this twice now and both times it was useless. The bag leaks so dirty nasty oven liquid goes all over the floor. No, not for me, it didn’t work as well as Mr Muscle, so I’ll stick to that!”

Other suggestions for cleaning oven racks from fans included using soda crystals or a dishwasher tablet.

Liz Reddin said: “Bag of soda crystals in a shallow bath of hot water. Just enough to cover racks for one hour, not overnight. Then should give a rub with scourer sponge. Will come up lovely.”

Janet Mitchell commented: “Dissolve a dishwasher tablet in a shallow bowl then dip in a wire scrubber sponge and the dirt comes off easily – no need to soak overnight.”
