The and are reportedly set to launch “security review” after an attempted break-in at Windsor Castle.

A major security breach occurred at the royal property last month, which saw masked robbers break through a security gate and scale a six-foot fence.

The security breach occurred just a stone’s throw away from Adelaide Cottage, which is where the Prince and Princess of Wales live with their three children. The family of five are thought to have been sleeping there when the incident occurred.

Former Scotland Yard detective Mike Neville has told that a review will likely take place regarding the breach, which saw thieves steal farm vehicles after breaching the castle’s perimeter.

Mr Neville said: “They will be very concerned because of course these men that their target was the farm vehicles. It’s a big issue in rural communities, but it only had to be some terrorists, didn’t it, with the same small amounts of planning.

“There will be a major meeting, I imagine, today there’ll be a gold group meeting at Thames Valley Police and with the security services about how the Royal Family are protected, because this is is very, very bad, a breach of security.

“I imagine there’s a massive amount of CCTV. There’ll be a trip alarms that go off if people cross certain areas, there’ll be all sorts of armed patrols and detection officers as well. They [Kate and William] might want to live as normal life as possible, but they don’t live a normal life today. They are targets for all sorts of terrorism, that’s two future kings in that building. So there’ll be a real massive review here.”

Discussing the security breach, a source told : “They must have been watching Windsor Castle for a while. They would have to have known the vehicles were stored there before they broke in.”

Since the incident, Thames Valley Police have confirmed that the burglars fled towards the Old Windsor/Datchet area. No arrests have been made and the investigation is still ongoing.

Kensington Palace declined to comment.
