Inside charming ‘tiny house’ couple built for just £35,000 – it’s only 36ft long

While grand typically impress people the most, this tiny little home has left people obsessed.

couple Brooke and Sol, constructed their own home from scratch, spending a mere £35,000 on the project. Despite its compact 36ft length, the house has everything the pair need.

“We’re so happy with how our house turned out,” they shared on .”We couldn’t be happier with our little house,” Brooke added.

The internet sensation of a home features a generous kitchen complete with ample storage and a cosy living space that includes a breakfast bar and a sofa. “We have plenty of storage with shelving and cabinets,” Brooke detailed.

Hailing from Maine, US, the couple also have a bathroom fitted with a walk-in shower and an exquisite sink area, while the upper level hosts a balcony-style bedroom with a double bed.

Brooke revealed: “We designed and built the house ourselves. We don’t really even have an official set of plans or blueprints. We drew out what we wanted with a pencil on a large poster board and that’s what we referenced throughout the whole build.”

Luckily, Sol’s professional background as a carpenter and woodworker meant he had the skills to take on homes, although this was his first tiny house project. “So we were able to do the whole build ourselves, with a little bit of help from friends and family,” Brooke added.

In 2021, the couple finished building their home and have been sharing their journey on social media. Although they enjoyed designing and constructing their tiny house, they faced challenges in obtaining planning permission.

After being denied a bank loan, they conducted thorough research to find a location where they could legally build their dream home. Brooke explained: “At the time, tiny houses weren’t legal across our state of Maine, so we had to research town building codes. The small town we chose doesn’t have any building codes.”

The garden, overlooking the forest, features a campfire area with benches and a hammock. After sharing a tour of their property on via , the couple received an influx of comments.

In the UK, tiny houses are legal but there are some restrictions – if the property is classed as a permanent building, it will need planning permission and Building Regulations approval, according to . The Caravan Act is outside of the planning rules.
