Host Amol Rajan denied the correct answer
fans are slamming the host Amol Rajan after he denied a correct answer to a student on the latest episode of the quiz show.
Four hopeful students joined their respective universities, St Andrews and UCL, to battle it out for a spot in the final, but one player received support from fans online after taking an extra second to answer, despite there being no definitive time buzzer.
Rajan, 41, did warn: “I need two answers promptly here,” before asking: “Of the seven SI-based units from which all other units may be derived, which two have capitalised symbols because they are named after scientists?”
Player Rosas from St Andrews buzzed in, answering correctly: “Kelvin and…Ampere.”
But Rajan interrupted him as he answered, blasting back: “No I’m afraid if you answer you’ve got to answer straight away. It was Kelvin and Ampere, but you took too long to answer.”

The player seemed upset at the decision
Fans felt this was unfair, as it was a mere second delay and didn’t feel it was justified to take his points
“Rosas was Robbed!” slammed one fan. Another chimed in: “Rosas got the answer right there he barely paused – def should have been allowed that point it can make all the difference! NOT fair!” while a third posted a basketball meme depicting someone being robbed on the court.
Unfortunately for the team it was more than one point that lost them the game as they trailed 105 to UCL’s 215.
The host isn’t one to hold back on his opinions of players’ answers and often tweets along live with fans during the episodes.
He recently shocked viewers when he took to X, formerly known as Twitter, during a live episode to slam a team’s poor response to a question.

Rajan, who took over from Jeremy Paxman in 2023, could be seen on screen putting his head down on the table, expressing his disappointment and frustration that the students were unable to recognise the classic hit song, Sittin’ On The Dock Of The Bay.
When fans commented on his reaction, he didn’t hold back on social media.
One fan said: “Enjoyed Amol Rajan in despair after a team failed to recognise Sittin’ On The Dock Of The Bay on University Challenge.”
