Eastbound traffic released

The eastbound traffic had been halted to allow the air ambulance crews in attendance to land and take off safely.

The air ambulance has now left the area, which has allowed National Highway to release traffic eastbound.

The M4 remains closed westbound between J8/9 and J10.

National Highways said: “Plans are in place to release traffic caught within the closure on the westbound soon.”

More traffic woes on M4

The closure between J8/9 and 10 isn’t the only one currently affecting the M4.

A “single car collision” that happened earlier this morning has sparked the closure of the M4 eastbound between J18 Tomarton and J17 #hippenham in Wiltshire.

The crash, National Highways said, “substantially damaged the central reservation” and prompted the closure of one lane to allow for the barrier to be repaired.

Road closure sparks traffic build-up

The road closure on the M4 sparked a major traffic build-up, latest images from the section of the motorway affected by the incident show.

Diversion routes in place

Diverted traffic is advised to follow the hollow square diversion symbol:

– Leave the M4 at J8/9, follow the A404M to J9B – The Thicket roundabout.

– Turn left at the roundabout and follow the A4 towards Reading.

– At the A4/A3290 roundabout turn left and follow the A3290 onto the A329M to the M4 Junction 10, rejoin the M4 westbound.
