Iconic Dallas star Linda Gray is planning to return to TV’s famous Southfork Ranch – as a ghost.

The veteran actress, 84, who played JR Ewing’s long-suffering wife Sue Ellen in the 80s US soap, has signed on to co-produce a romantic comedy in which she will also appear as the mischief-making spirit of her old character.

Insiders say she is also hoping to recruit fellow Dallas star Patrick Duffy, 75, who played her brother-in-law Bobby Ewing in the show that ended in 1991 after 13 years.

Linda wants him to appear alongside her in the as-yet untitled movie as her “poltergeist partner”, a senior production source says.

They added: “She wants him to take a final bow with her at the location where they both became household names in the 1980s.”

The main plot line in the script, written by When You Step Upon a Star author Will Keck, focuses on a fictitious Taylor Swift-style pop princess who hires Southfork to shoot a music video for a Christmasiconic themed song. But her efforts are thwarted by “supernatural squatters” who are now the only inhabitants of the sprawling ranch house once home to the Ewings.

Linda, who also appeared in a short-lived Dallas comeback between 2012 and 2014, has not publicly commented on the planned rom-com, which is due to start shooting later this year.

But our source said: “She was disappointed when the reboot ended with her character Sue Ellen falling off the wagon and feels it left a sour taste in the mouths of many fans.

“Her new film isn’t going to be a fullblown continuation of the Ewing saga but she’s hoping Patrick will team up with her to give those fans the closure they never got – with a few laughs on the way.”
