Alan Titchmarsh’s adorable namesake puppy unveiled during Love Your Weekend

Love Your Weekend with has a brand new cast member – a nine-week-old puppy named in honour of the veteran broadcaster. The cute canine was introduced during Sunday’s episode (October 6) of the long-running breakfast show.

Titch, a young golden retriever-Labrador cross, has been named after the 75-year-old to mark the start of the Guide Dogs Puppy Appeal. The annual campaign is run by Guide Dogs UK and is set to raise crucial funds for the breeding and training of potential pooches.

Speaking out on meeting Titch for the first time, Alan said: “It’s such an honour to have such an important puppy named after me and support the Guide Dogs Puppy Appeal. Titch seems to be a very confident and bright little chap – I’m sure he’s got what it takes to become a guide dog someday.

“I’m looking forward to following his progress in the meantime.” Pam White, National Fundraising Campaigns Manager for Guide Dogs, has issued a plea for those who want to get involved in funding guide dog services.

“This year 1,300 puppies, including Titch, will start their journey to become a life-changing guide dog. We really need people to support the Guide Dogs Puppy Appeal to help turn these amazing pups into partnerships,” she added.

Titch, who is being raised by volunteers Alan and Jacqui Falder in Hampshire, is set to become a series regular on Love Your Weekend.

Every six minutes someone starts to lose their eyesight across the UK and without the correct support, people can feel isolated and alone.

However, having a guide dog can transform the lives of those suffering from visual impairments.

Last year it was on , a new competition series highlighting homeless and rescue canines who are given a second chance at life.

Each episode is set to highlight how training and purposeful tasks can improve the animals’ mental health as well as stimulate their minds and enhance their fitness.

Speaking about the role, the star said: “Dogs have played such an important part in my life, both as a child in Yorkshire with a corgi/cairn and border terrier cross at my heels, to bringing up my family with three yellow Labradors.

“Their companionship and their resourcefulness are matchless, and I am looking forward hugely to watching the development of the dogs in this series as they prove their worth when given the chance to shine.”
