Top 10 best-selling cars in 2024 so far revealed – one has been sold nearly 40,000 times

The (SMMT) has shared a list of the in the UK during the first nine months of 2024.

While sales are still considerably lower than they were before the pandemic, a growing number of drivers are getting behind the wheel of a new model, with more than 275,239 cars sold between January and September 2024.

According to the SMMT, the most popular new car during the nine month period was the , with almost 39,000 examples sold in the UK alone.

The smallest car in the range ever since the long-running Fiesta was axed, offers a mix of cute looks and an enjoyable driving style, helped by the latest iteration of EcoBoost Fox engines.

During February 2024, the was also given a facelift, giving the compact crossover a new set of bumpers and more technology, including a 12-inch touchscreen and wireless phone charging.

Another popular model from January to September 2024 was the Kia Sportage, a slightly larger C-segment SUV that was bought by more than 37,500 customers.

Part of the Kia range since 1993, the Sportage has spanned five generations so far, with the latest model known for its unconventional styling and a good level of standard equipment.

With prices starting from £28,350, there are cheaper new SUVs on the market. However, the Kia is still unbeaten for cover, with the South Korean brand offering a seven-year or 100,000-mile warranty for all of their models.

Finally, the SMMT highlighted that many new car buyers also opted for a close rival to the Kia Sportage during the first nine months of 2024, with nearly 33,000 Nissan Qashqais sold.

Recently facelifted to give it a more modern exterior and a better interior, the SUV is one of very few cars on the organisations list to be made in the UK, being built at Nissan’s factory in Sunderland.

However, the Japanese brand have also had success with other models, including the latest version of the Juke, which was the fourth best-selling model of the period.
