can be in so many different ways, but the process most commonly involves using a pan and hob.

However, creator and mum suggests that the “easiest” method doesn’t involve either of these steps.

Jennifer Valentyne, who identifies herself as a “mum who loves cooking, cocktails and comedy”, frequently posts on . In one , she amazed her followers with her straightforward egg .

Instead of cooking the egg on the stove, Jennifer prefers to prepare her poached eggs in the microwave.

All you need is a cup of water, a splash of vinegar, and of course, a microwave.

Microwave Poached Egg

is often praised as an essential ingredient when making poached eggs. This is because the acidity of vinegar accelerates the rate of denaturing and helps the poached egg maintain its shape.

Despite vinegar’s strong taste and smell, a few drops are unlikely to alter the flavour of your egg.

Any kind of vinegar can get the job done, but most chefs suggest using white vinegar because its lack of colour means it won’t discolour your egg.

Darker vinegars, like balsamic vinegar, are generally discouraged as they can turn your egg an unappealing shade of brown.

In her video, Jennifer stated: “The easiest poached egg you’ve ever made. Add one teaspoon of vinegar to a cup of cold water and then add your egg.”

After adding the vinegar and egg to the cup of water, she placed it directly into the microwave. The mum instructed: “Microwave for one minute.”

Jennifer advised that once the egg is removed, it should be “perfect”. She went on to say: “I put it on my sprouted grain toast and add a little salt and paper.”

As she cut into her egg, a golden, runny yolk oozed out. She exclaimed: “That’s beautiful, look at that, perfect.”

@lynnie285 pointed out: “You don’t need the vinegar! It works perfectly without it.”

Some users claimed that a longer cooking time was needed. @david1973 said: “So, I tried it and it needed more than a minute for me but it worked.”

@emilyksp said: “Worked for me but had to go 20 to 30 seconds more! I even made more than one without starting over with cold water! Easiest poached egg I’ve ever made!”
