A man has shared how he’s managed to save over £39,000 ($51,151) in just four months going towards his dream of building his own house.

Michael Hickey, from the US, has been documenting his adventures across America doing all he can to save money. This involves sleeping in his car and working on apps like DoorDash to make a wage.

The 24-year-old is currently on day 135 and has just 45 days to make $8,849 (£6,757) to bring his total to $60,000 (£46,000) in six months. The self-imposed deadline aims to spur Michael on so he can work as hard as possible.

Chronicling a typical day, the social media personality explained that he had been parking his vehicle in a casino carpark but would have to find somewhere else to sleep as they didn’t want him staying there any longer.

Don’t miss…

After getting ready and driving off, Michael revealed he worked as a DoorDash delivery person and clocked in for a shift. This involved bringing people their food and drink for 10 hours.

At the end of his work day he had earned $300 (£229). He only spent a small amount on petrol and managed to eat leftovers.

However, the real earner of the day was social media, which landed him a whopping $627 (£479). He told his 669,000 followers that YouTube had paid him $385, $114, Facebook $63, and $65.

Currently in Seattle, Michael explained that he planned on DoorDashing every day for as many hours as possible in order to reach his goal. At the end of the day he revealed he had earned $896 (£685).

Michael plans on building a tiny home in Florida and needs at least $60,000 in order to purchase the land, the actual small property and install electricity and water.

The rise in popularity of tiny homes, particularly in America, has risen dramatically in the last few years, and by 2026 the market is expected to be worth $3.5 billion. Many have seen their appeal, wishing to have a simpler and more sustainable lifestyle and combat extortionate rates and house prices.

People who have been following Michael’s adventure were full of support and praise for him. One user noted that he only needed to earn $180 a day in order to reach his goal now.

Another person offered: “My wife and I live in Indiana and have space to accommodate if you pass through!”

However, not everyone was convinced. One user stated: “No shade to you bro, but this is straight up dystopian. If they played on Fox News that people in China under communism had to live in their car and do menial labour for years without proper food or healthcare just so they could one day get a house the size of a shed we would say it was a failed state that hates its own people.”
