An Arctic blast is likely to smash parts of the UK as the latest show temperatures plunging to as low as -6C.

have turned white suggesting the possibility of snow in the northern parts of the country on October 12.

According to the weather maps, will cover most parts of Scotland, with even northern parts of England experiencing freezing temperatures.

The prediction comes as Hurricane Kirk makes its way toward Britain resulting in snow, heavy rain, and wind. As Kirk moves north out of the tropics, it will eventually weaken over the cooler waters further north.

If conditions are right, the remnants of Kirk may get swept towards north-west Europe, no longer as a hurricane but a deep depression capable of producing strong winds and intense rainfall.

The latest weather maps show snow accumulating in areas around Wick and Inverness on October 12.

Areas such as Fort William, Aberdeen and Inverness are likely to see extreme cold weather conditions with mercury levels plunging to -6C, maps show.

The ’s long-range forecast for October 9-18 comes in line with the weather maps, suggesting colder conditions across the northern parts of the country.

It says: “The forecast period looks most likely to be mostly unsettled, with frequent bouts of wind and rain associated with areas of low pressure.

“Frequent showers, especially over southern areas, at first, will probably give way to more widespread rain and strong winds associated with the remnants of Hurricane Kirk mid to late in the week.

“Scotland and Northern Ireland are more likely to quickly turn colder with showers, and the colder weather (perhaps some snow on Scottish mountains) will most likely gradually work its way south.

“A more settled interlude is then possible but further spells of wind and rain, again with a focus across southern areas, are likely to arrive from the west during the following week with temperatures returning to around average.”
