Melania Trump Advocates For Abortion Rights In New Memoir

Former first lady Melania Trump advocates for abortion rights in her upcoming memoir, according to The Guardian, which obtained a copy of the book before its Tuesday release.

“It is imperative to guarantee that women have autonomy in deciding their preference of having children, based on their own convictions, free from any intervention or pressure from the government,” she wrote in her memoir, “Melania.”

“Why should anyone other than the woman herself have the power to determine what she does with her own body? A woman’s fundamental right of individual liberty, to her own life, grants her the authority to terminate her pregnancy if she wishes,” she added. “Restricting a woman’s right to choose whether to terminate an unwanted pregnancy is the same as denying her control over her own body. I have carried this belief with me throughout my entire adult life.”

Her stance differs from that of her husband, former President Donald Trump, who has said that women should face punishment for having abortions if they become illegal.

In her memoir, Melania Trump acknowledges that she and her husband have “occasional political disagreements” but that she prefers to remain private about those differences, according to The Guardian’s account of the book.

The former president has bragged about his role in the 2022 U.S. Supreme Court decision that overturned Roe v. Wade, the 1973 ruling that had established a national right to abortion, due to his nominations of three conservative justices.

Moreover, Project 2025 lays the groundwork for various anti-abortion policy proposals. (Trump has tried to distance himself from the Heritage Foundation’s 900-page right-wing blueprint for a second term, but at least 140 people from his previous administration were involved in its creation.)

However, he claimed for the first time Tuesday that he would veto a national abortion ban after going back and forth on the topic of reproductive rights.

EVERYONE KNOWS I WOULD NOT SUPPORT A FEDERAL ABORTION BAN, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, AND WOULD, IN FACT, VETO IT, BECAUSE IT IS UP TO THE STATES TO DECIDE BASED ON THE WILL OF THEIR VOTERS (THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE!). LIKE RONALD REAGAN BEFORE ME, I FULLY SUPPORT THE THREE…
