A that got stuck after driving down a narrow has been removed by a crane after 48 hours.

The road haulage truck from Boons Transport based in Peterborough got stuck in Forder near Saltash, . on Monday.

It was delivering seed to a farm, but apparently missed the entrance and despite a ‘no heavy goods vehicle’ sign on the road, continued down the narrow lane.

The truck’s load of seed was removed by a forklift tractor ahead of the lift.

The lorry cab was driven away and a crane was brought in to lift the eight-tonne lorry trailer while road diversions were in place.

Power cables above the location also had to be removed to gain access to the trailer and cab before they could be removed.

About 30 homes in the village had their power switched off as the operation started.

Devon and Cornwall Police said surrounding roads were closed on Wednesday as crews attempted to recover the vehicle.

Dougie Smith, of MacSalvors Plant Hire, was the driver tasked with the lift on Wednesday morning.

He said: “Once it’s up and in a horizontal position, it’s straight up and a straight lift.”

Villager Marion Beale who watched the operation said:”It’s so close to the house that when they lift it up they’ve got to be incredibly skilled to get it from bashing into the house.”

The operation is similar to another in November 2007 when another lorry got stuck in the same spot. The man who was in charge of the crane operation was the same man who lifted the last lorry out that got stuck 16 years ago.

One local said: said: “Having a lorry stuck in the road here every 16 years is probably the most interesting thing that happens here.”
