Dust off your winter coats early this year as weather maps show a blanket of blue as the UK prepares for in the next few weeks.

An will sweep the country on October 15 with many areas facing -1C temperatures, in some parts of Scotland.

Areas of low pressure will bring wet and windy conditions across central and southern parts of the UK, with areas in the north and northwest seeing drier spells for longer.

Over the week starting from October 15, temperatures will tend to be closer to average overall in the south according to the , with below average temperatures spreading across the northwest.

WXCHARTS predicts areas in Scotland including Inverness will see 1 cm of snow with the rest of the UK facing brutal chilly winds.

However, some areas of the country will face slightly milder temperatures, with parts of East England such as Kent and Norwich predicted to be 5C.

The ice blast will spread to places in Wales too, with the centre of the country facing -1C, yet North Wales will just miss the brutal temperatures seeing a slightly higher 3C.

London and the south east will also see slightly warmer conditions of 2-5C, yet showery spells are predicted over the capital on October 14.

According to the ’s long range forecast, “confidence is rather low” for the period between October 15 and 29.

With a general continuation of recent weather patterns, a colder October is set to follow a wet September.

Today:

Cloud and rain in the morning will give way to brighter conditions, but showers remain in the southeast through the day. Elsewhere dry with sunny spells with light winds away from the southeast. Cooler than average.

Tonight:

Early evening showers will fade leaving clear skies for most places. Colder than previous night with a rural air frost in the north and west.

Thursday:

A bright and dry day across the whole of the UK. Some patchy cloud developing through the day which could develop into the odd isolated shower.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Dry with plenty of sunny spells on Friday and feeling warm in light winds. Rain returning from the west into the weekend with stronger winds.
