Inside ITV star Lorraine Kelly’s marriage to husband Steve Smith after 32 years together

ITV’s Lorraine Kelly, a familiar face on British television with a successful career spanning over four decades, is best known for her roles on Good Morning Britain and GMTV. She also hosts her own show where she chats with celebrities, discusses current affairs, fashion, food, and much more.

Aside from hosting her own programme, Lorraine Kelly has been actively involved in life-saving campaigns and numerous charity initiatives. Her dedication to charity work and journalism earned her a CBE.

Throughout all of this, one person has remained by her side – her husband.

The couple have enjoyed 32 years of marriage after first meeting when Steve was employed as a cameraman on the TV-am show. While Lorraine is a well-known public figure, Steve prefers to keep a lower profile.

Here’s an inside look at Lorraine Kelly’s marriage to Steve Smith.

The pair first crossed paths when Steve was working as a cameraman on TV-am, and Lorraine knew instantly that he was “the one”.

In a chat with Woman and Home, Lorraine reminisced: “He walked into the TV-am office 28 years ago where I was working as a reporter and he was part of the crew, and I thought, ‘That’ll do, I’m having that.'”.

The pair were more than just friends for a year before sparks flew while on a work trip to Glencoe, Scotland. Lorraine quipped about the early days: “We were staying in a tiny hotel in the middle of nowhere and I got him incredibly drunk on tequila before making my move.”

She recalled the night she made her move: “The way I remember it is that I leapt on him like a ninja and he had absolutely no defence!”.

The pair got married on September 5, 1992 at Mains Castle in Dundee. Two years after getting married, the couple welcomed their daughter Rosie. Steve is understood to be more private than his celebrity wife, with Lorraine commenting Steve understands the “funny hours and the silliness” of her celeb lifestyle.

Yet she admitted he has zero desire to be part of it, which is key to their successful marriage.

Lorraine added: “His idea of hell on earth would be at something like a premiere. It would be like having needles stuck in his eyes. That does help. It must be very odd being with someone who enjoys walking down a red carpet.”

Earlier this year, 29-year-old Rosie announced she was expecting her first child and Lorraine and Steve were set to become grandparents.

The daughter of the TV star shared: “We could not be more excited – you’re already so loved little one.” Another photo showed Rosie’s 12-week sonogram scan where she said her unborn baby was now ‘the size of a fig’.

Rosie gave birth to Billie on August 29. Lorraine shared her excitement in the comments as she gushed over the wonderful family news on social media: “I have been BURSTING to share this wonderful news with you!

“Baby Billie is an angel and I’m so proud of @rosiekellysmith and @stevewhite94 who will be the best parents.

“I’m delighted to be Granny Smith and can’t wait to go on adventures.”

After initially setting up their family base in Dundee, Lorraine and Steve chose to move to Buckinghamshire back in 2017, following their daughter Rosie’s decision to move out. Their relocation was mainly due to Lorraine’s demanding job in London that had her regularly commuting a significant distance.

Currently, Lorraine and her husband Steve enjoy life in a riverside property, believed to be valued at around £2 million. Social media posts reveal that their countryside dwelling features an impressive kitchen, several bedrooms, a cosy living room complete with a log burner, and a bright conservatory bathing in natural light.

The couple’s garden boasts its own guest house, which has been perfect for welcoming and accommodating friends and relatives.
