Arrest warrant out for murder suspect in suspicious death in Mackenzie

Police responding to reports of shots fired in a home discovered a man dead inside

An arrest warrant has been issued for a suspect accused of murder in a suspicious death in Mackenzie early Sunday.

The B.C. RCMP north district major crime unit has taken over the investigation after Mackenzie RCMP were called to a report of shots fired at a home in the 100-block of Centennial Drive in the central B.C. community.

A man was found dead in the home.

On Tuesday, a warrant was issued for the arrest of Drake Matthew Kerr, on the same day the B.C. Prosecution Service approved a charge of second-degree murder against the Mackenzie resident.

“The death appears to be an isolated incident and investigators do not believe there is any potential danger to the public,” said RCMP Cpl. Madonna Saunderson in a statement.

“The public can expect to see an increased police presence in the area for the next several days while the investigation continues.”

Investigators are asking to talk to anyone with information about the incident, CCTV footage from the area, or who knows anything about Kerr’s whereabouts, by calling Mackenzie RCMP at 250-997-3288.
