is back as Tommy Shelby, with sharing some first-look images from their upcoming movie on Monday. The streaming giant, which has teamed up with the to deliver the new film, has also shared the exciting news that production has officially started.
Creator Steven Knight has been reunited with Murphy, with news snaps showing them posing together and unveiling the actor as an older version of his character. The original Peaky Blinders, which ran for six seasons on the between 2013 and 2022, follows the exploits of a famous Birmingham crime gang in the direct aftermath of the First World War.
The drama is loosely based on a real family-led gang who committed crimes in the English city from the 1880s to the 1920s. Meanwhile the film, which will be directed by series regular Tom Harper, will take place during World War II.
Aside from Oscar-winning actor Murphy, the Peaky Blinders film cast will also include Dune’s Rebecca Ferguson, Saltburn’s Barry Keoghan and Pulp Fiction’s Tim Roth. While we don’t yet know which roles these actors have been assigned, Knight has teased we can expect even more huge stars to be announced for the project.
Speaking about the highly-anticipated film, Knight said: “I’m thrilled to see the cameras rolling on this new chapter of the Peaky Blinders story, set during World War II. The country is at war, and so, of course, are our Peaky Blinders.”

Meanwhile, director Harper added: “There’s a great feeling of anticipation and excitement amongst our outstanding cast and crew.
“We’re grateful to the fans for getting us to this point and believe this next chapter is going to deliver something extraordinary.”
Murphy also previously opened up about his enthusiasm for the new film, telling ’s Tudum: “It seems like Tommy Shelby wasn’t finished with me.

“It is very gratifying to be re-collaborating with Steven Knight and Tom Harper on the film version of Peaky Blinders. This is one for the fans.”
An official release date for the film has not yet been confirmed, but the Peaky Blinders movie was greenlit earlier this year and, with production now underway, fans can hope for a release date that isn’t too far in the future.
In reference to a release window, has simply said: “Check back soon for more information, by order of the Peaky Blinders.”
