Disney+ members are being warned they may now need to pay an extra fee to share their password. It comes amid a crackdown that came into force on September 27. The move means that if you share your account with friends or family who don’t live with you, you’ll need to pay up to £4.99 a month extra.

Because of this, MSE are urging people to get their own account now if they’re in this position. And if you do this now, you can benefit from the current Disney+ saving plans. The money gurus explain Disney+ will check where you’re accessing their streaming platform from and automatically set up a ‘Household’ for your account based on the devices you use and your ‘primary residence’. If you log in while you’re away from home, you’ll need to verify your account using a one-time passcode sent to your email.

Don’t panic as you won’t be charged unless you buy the extra profile – although it’s unclear how they will stop you from watching the shows. You’ll need to buy a separate ‘Extra Member’ profile to share your account with someone outside of your household. This is in addition to what you pay monthly. This will cost £3.99 a month if you have a ‘Standard with Ads’ plan and £4.99 a month if you’ve got a ‘Standard’ or ‘Premium’ plan.

However, MSE warn you can only buy one Extra Member add-on per account and the Extra Member cannot have had a Disney+ subscription before – this includes a free trial.
