Princess Kate and Prince William had an adorable nickname for Prince George.
Like any expectant parents, and were filled with excitement and anticipation ahead of the birth of their first child.
And in a heartwarming revelation, the royal couple had a charming nickname for their future heir during Kate’s pregnancy – “little grape.”
Royal author Robert Jobson revealed the nickname in his 2013 book .
According to Jobson, William and Kate, who in December 2012, affectionately referred to their unborn child as “our little grape” as they awaited his arrival.
The nickname reflects the typical size of a baby during the early stages of pregnancy.

Jobson wrote of the royal birth: “The next time we would see her [Kate]—officially at least—would be on the hospital steps with her new baby in her arms and proud husband at her side.
There is no doubt the birth of her baby would be her biggest test to date, and, indeed, it would be a crowning moment.”
The tradition of affectionate nicknames is a longstanding one within the royal family.
Queen Elizabeth II herself was famously called “Lilibet” by her close family members, while Prince George has also been given several monikers as he has grown.

The Royal Family has a long tradition of sweet nicknames.
During his time at Thomas’s Battersea School, he was known by his initials “PG,” a nod to his formal title, Prince George.
This soon led to a playful new nickname, “Tips,” a reference to the popular British tea brand, PG Tips.
George’s younger siblings have their own sweet nicknames as well. Princess Charlotte is fondly called “Lottie” by her parents, while has also been known to refer to her as “mignonette,” a French term of endearment.
Charlotte’s spirited personality has also earned her the nickname “Warrior Princess.”
As for the youngest member of the family, Prince Louis, Princess Kate revealed an adorable name for him during the 2023 Big Help Out initiative, where the family roasted marshmallows together.
Kate was overheard calling her son “Lou Bug” as she helped him with a marshmallow stick, further showcasing the family’s down-to-earth approach to parenting.
Even has his share of royal nicknames, one of which dates back to his childhood.
Princess Diana affectionately dubbed her son “Wombat” during a family trip to Australia.
William explained in a 2007 interview, “I’ve been rightfully told because I can’t remember back that far.
“But when we went to Australia with our parents, the wombat, you know, that’s the local animal. So I just basically got called that.”
And in a charming anecdote, William was responsible for one of the late Queen Elizabeth II’s more unusual nicknames.
As a young child, William accidentally called the Queen “Gary” while playing at Buckingham Palace, a name that stuck after he struggled to pronounce “Granny.”
