ITV’s hit show DNA Journey is set to air jaw-dropping scenes as actor John Simm will make an astonishing discovery.

In the upcoming episode, critically acclaimed actors, John and Philip Glenister, who are known for their roles in iconic drama, Life On Mars will dig deep to find out more about their own family histories.

Accompanied by Phil, the film tracks John’s journey as he uncovers his newfound biological lineage and learns about the biological father he never knew existed.

In the episode, the pair confront a series of startling revelations with raw honesty, humour, and mutual support. There are also plenty of dramatic disclosures for Phil as he discovers potential fortunes and superstar opera singers in his family tree.

The compelling instalment reaches its peak with a heartwarming encounter between John and the half-sister he never knew he had.

At the start of the show, John is seen reminiscing about the conversation he had with his mum before taking his DNA test. He says: “When they had me, in the sixties, they were both young…they were together and then they split up and were both with other people and then they got back together and then they had me. And I’d never heard this story before.”

In the film John and Phil head to Featherstone, Yorkshire where they meet historian, Brad, who reveals that John’s biological father has, sadly now, passed away. He is later provided with details about his biological father’s upbringing and is informed that he used to live in the same area and drink at the same working men’s clubs that John and his dad used to play at when John was a teenager.

John says in disbelief: “The thing that blows my mind, me and my dad, we played around here loads of times, we definitely played here a lot and he might have been in the same pub one night and watched me play.”

Later on in the programme, the acting duo meet up with a club steward who has lived in the area for many years. The steward tells John that his biological father lived above a working men’s club with his parents.

John says: “I can’t get it out of my head, because we played this area in the 80s and he was here and he was in working men’s clubs. It’s one of those mad, Back To The Future, Life On Mars things.”

Emotions are running high as John sees photos of his biological father and learns more about him, including that he had a daughter, John’s half-sister.

John admits that he considered pulling out of the new series but then decided to utilise the experts to find out about his biological father.

DNA Journey with Ancestry starts on Wednesday 9th October at 9pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
