Colton Underwood received a lot of attention for jumping over fences in “The Bachelor,” and now he’s jumping for joy as a new dad.
On Monday, Sept. 30, Underwood announced the arrival of the baby that he and his husband, Jordan C. Brown, so desperately wanted.
“Our world is a million times better with you in it,” Underwood captioned his Instagram carousel. He also added the baby’s name — Bishop Colton Brown-Underwood — and birthdate, Sept. 26, 2024.
Becoming a father “has always been a goal of mine,” Underwood said in a backstage interview when he visited TODAY earlier this year. “It’s been something that I’ve always wanted to accomplish and I never thought it was possible as a gay man.”
The couple went through a lot of ups and downs on the path to parenthood.
Underwood was told early on that his active sperm count was low, so he worked with doctors to determine a “plan of action” that included changes to his lifestyle, diet and workout regimens. Once Underwood’s sperm count “bounced back,” he and Brown began looking for a surrogate.
The men divided their sperm between the surrogate’s 22 eggs, fertilizing three embryos and transferring the one doctors deemed the “healthiest.” The couple doesn’t know whose sperm was used, but they’ve decided whomever is not the biological father of this child will go through the process again for their second child.
Congratulations from Bachelor Nation have been pouring in. Former host Chris Harrison wrote, “Congratulations guys. Sending our love and blessings.” Bachelorette Ali Manno commented, “Congratulations Colton! So happy for your family!”
Celebs like Kate Hudson, Sophia Bush and Jesse Tyler Ferguson are also sending their well wishes on Instagram.
Through his podcast, “Daddyhood,” Underwood told TODAY.com that he “really is trying to take on this role of being a bridge to Middle America to say, ‘Hey, I deserve a family, too.’”
