Ex- host Edd China has revealed the “best way” to protect machines from corrosion this winter.

In the new series uploaded online, he takes viewers through the step-by-step work back to its former glory.

In the latest episode on his , the top mechanic galvanised the chassis before applying a powder coat to the top.

Galvanising a chassis means coating the entire bodywork in a protective layer of zinc.

He stressed this would help protect the model from the damaging effects of the British weather in a major boost ahead of winter.

Edd explained: “We’ve only just dipped our Range Rover chassis in molten zinc to give it a protective layer of sacrificial, softer metal.

“But today, we’re finally going to protect our now well-protected Range Rover chassis from many more years of Great British weather, and John’s off-roading squalor, with an all-enveloping layer of powder coating protection.”

According to the , the practice is “often perceived to be more expensive than it is”.

This is partly because “high-performance coating is automatically assumed to be expensive”.

It could deter many motorists from considering getting the work done despite fees starting from just £2.

According to Edd, galvanising a chassis would have a major impact on the lifetime of a chassis in a major boost to owners.

He said: “It’s actually going to add some protection. So we’re going to get maybe about 50 years from the galvanising sp that zinc is just going to keep the steel preserved,

“But then if we can avoid damaging the painted area, then that might last say ten years without any stone chips.

“Unlikely I know but that would add another ten years to the sort of longevity of the chassis. So it really is about preserving it longer and also looking fantastic on the road.”
