owners, , have pledged around £750,000 to support relief efforts after the devastating impact of Hurricane Helene in Florida this week. The natural disaster caused major damage to multiple areas, including the Glazer family’s beloved Tampa Bay, and, at the time of writing, has left at least 64 dead.

Powerful rain and winds as high as 140mph during the Category 4 hurricane condemned Florida’s Big Bend region to chaos by prompting flooding, landslides and road closures.

Many residents have been left stranded without shelter while they await rescue. Some who couldn’t get insurance have lost their homes after the tragic event.

Local sports establishments have rallied together to offer financial support, with the Tampa Bay Lightning owner Jeff Vinik announcing their Foundation would be donating £1.5million.

The Tampa Bay Rays are expected to follow suit in the coming days, and the Glazers, who own the NFL franchise, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, have made a generous contribution of their own.

A statement read: “The Glazer family has pledged $1million (£750,000) to support local non-profit organisations aiding those most impacted by Hurricane Helene.

“The donation will be allocated to support local agencies involved in relief efforts across Tampa Bay.”

United and Bucs co-owner Darcie Glazer Kassewitz added comments of her own ahead of Sunday’s clash with the Philadelphia Eagles at the Raymond James Stadium.

“The flooding caused by Hurricane Helene’s storm surge has been devastating to many throughout the state and specifically our Tampa Bay community,” she wrote.

“There are many areas throughout our community that will require time and additional resources in order to begin the recovery.

“We offer our full support to those who have been impacted and are extremely thankful for the heroic and brave efforts of the many first responders and utility workers who have been working tirelessly to ensure the safety and well-being of our community during this difficult time.”

The Glazers are still the majority owners of United but have taken a back seat since and INEOS inherited total control of football operations.

Ratcliffe’s control has extended vastly beyond the sporting side of the club, overseeing around 250 redundancies as part of widespread budget cuts.

The INEOS chief is the new face of United’s ownership, along with other regular presences at Old Trafford – chief executive Omar Berrada, sporting director Dan Ashworth and technical director Jason Wilcox.

It remains to be seen whether the Glazers are open to allowing Ratcliffe to increase his 28 per cent stake in the club in the coming years.
