Former Death in Paradise detective issues advice to Don Gilet ahead of his BBC debut
has offered some crucial advice to brand new Detective Inspector Don Gilet. The actor, 58, starred on the show back in 2014 and lived on the stunning island when he filmed the series.
The hit show is filmed on the island of Deshaies. It is in the French archipelago of Guadeloupe in the Lesser Antilles, which doubles as the fictional town of Saint Marie.
In an exclusive interview with the actor said that Don, 57, must film his “denouement at the end”. They film in the summer season which can see scorching temperatures reach up to 34 Degrees Celsius.
He told us: “Yeah I have. I have got some great advice. When you do the denouement at the end, make sure you do your bit in the morning as it gets very hot in the afternoon.
“Basically the technique is to film all your lines in the morning and watch everybody else melt during the afternoon,” before bursting out laughing. Ben confessed that it is a long day that is not only time-consuming but exhausting.

“You have to sit there for hours and hours and hours and hours all afternoon. You basically film a quarter of an episode in an afternoon. It is a big chunk of the episode. It is a really long day,” he continued.
Before adding that Don should: “Start really early get yours done first thing, and watch everyone sweat [laughs].”
Ben recently shared that after having fond memories with the cast and crew.

When quizzed if would he return, Ben jumped at the opportunity and said: “Absolutely I would.”
Looking back, he recalled: “I did go back as a ghost in series 10. With Camille. They did like a 100th episode.
“I did pop up, and I did get to go back. It was amazing because it had been at least ten years since I had done the first episode,” he shared.

Ben first filmed the popular crime series over fourteen years and claimed he hated living in Saint Marie during the first season.
He called time on his role because he did not want to at the time, with his second wife, Jessica Parker – who he married in 2013.
That same year he found out he was going to be a father and could not bear to be away from home for months at a time with a newborn.
