The Duchess has been described as being both self-confident and down-to-earth and is a firm favourite among many royal fans.
Her special relationship with Queen Elizabeth II was evident at many royal events with the pair sharing similar interests.
They were said to have spent a great deal of time together during weekend evenings at Windsor where they would watch old war films and historical documentaries.
This close bond was evident after Queen Elizabeth had granted an unusual request which could’ve seen Duchess Sophie holding a title that had not been held by a royal for over 100 years.

gave the title to his youngest brother on Prince Edward’s 59th birthday which his father, Prince Philip, held for more than 70 years.
Duchess Sophie holds several other titles which are all female equivalents of her husbands.
However, there was one title Sophie was set to receive from Queen Elizabeth which she missed out on.
A courtier alleged to The Telegraph that ‘Prince Edward was going to be the Duke of Cambridge, but he watched the film Shakespeare in Love, which had a character called the Earl of Wessex.’

King Charles III bestowed his brother Edward the title of Duke of Edinburgh for his 59th birthday
This changed Prince Edward’s mind regarding his new title which would’ve made Sophie the Duchess of Cambridge.
“He liked the sound of it and asked the Queen if he could have that instead,” added the courtier and as such Edward and Sophie became the Duke and Duchess of Wessex.
Prince Edward was rumoured to have made the request to denounce receiving the title of Duke of Cambridge after seeing Colin Firth play Lord Wessex.
If the prince hadn’t changed his mind regarding his preference for the Earl of Wessex title, Duchess Sophie would’ve become Duchess of Cambridge rather than Princess Kate.
His unusual decision at the time meant Edward missed out on a Duke title which both his brothers had including Duke of York and King Charles’ Duke of Cornwall title.
Edward and Sophie were instead known as the Earl and Countess of Wessex for 24 years before made the couple the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh on his 59th birthday.
This title was expected by the pair for quite some time with the King upholding his late parents’ wishes for their Dukedom.
There are eleven working members of The Royal Family who all hold various titles, patronages and all with different responsibilities.
Sophie had previously spoken of her husband’s new title and said that he was ‘delighted and moved the day his Majesty the King made him Duke of Edinburgh’ which ‘he deserves’.
“I am so proud of the man he is,” said a proud Sophie.
