British tourists travelling to have been issued an urgent safety warning due to ongoing forest fires impacting air quality across parts of the country, including the capital, Quito.

The (FCDO) advises visitors to take precautions, such as wearing face masks or staying indoors, particularly in areas where air quality has significantly deteriorated.

In a recent statement, the FCDO warned: “Forest fires are affecting some parts of Ecuador, including Quito.

“This is having an impact on air quality in the areas most affected by the fires. It is advisable to wear a face mask if the air quality is particularly bad, or to stay inside.”

Holidaymakers have been urged to closely follow the advice of local authorities and avoid travelling to areas where fires are active.

Ecuador, a popular destination for British tourists due to its stunning Galápagos Islands, the Amazon rainforest, and breathtaking landscapes is currently grappling with multiple crises.

As of September 23, Ecuador has been experiencing sporadic power cuts that can last up to 12 hours per day, with water shortages affecting several regions.
