Promising reviews of the Nespresso Vertuo Plus:

“I have made coffee with drip makers, percolators, pour-overs, French press and the highest end home espresso machines. The best “bang for the buck” (return on time and $) accounting for taste, initial cost, recurring cost (pods), daily cleaning, periodic cleaning, easy of use, time to brew coffee….is the Nespresso Vertuo Plus. I love the quality of the coffee with the crema on top and the variety of coffee recipes that can be created when paired with the milk heater/frother. Amazon has a great price for the Vertuo Plus and Milk Frother bundle. The only down side is perhaps I should have gone for the Vertuo Next model which can use the larger 18 oz pods for when serving guests. I’m very happy with the Nespresso Vertuo Plus and recommend it for great coffee fast and easy at a reasonable price.” — FRANK H DRIES III

“I’ve been searching for the ‘perfect’ coffee-maker for some time now, and I have to say, this Nespresso VertuoPlus comes pretty close. We’ve been using a Keurig for many years now, and while it’s certainly convenient and easy-to-use, lately the quality of the coffee has not been good. I can’t seem to find any Keurig pods that make decent coffee any more, and even though my Keurig is only about a year old, I was sick of crappy tasting coffee in the mornings. So I bit the bullet and tried the Nespresso VertuoPlus, and it’s SO much better than the Keurig―as others mentioned, it’s like getting good coffee from a coffee shop. I can make an Americano that tastes virtually identical to what I get at Starbucks or similar shops, and the machine is very easy to use. Even my husband, who is extremely picky about his coffee, was very impressed by the taste, although he thought just the 7.7 oz. pods alone were a bit on the weak side, so has been using a shot of espresso in them which did the trick.” — Carol S. “I’ve not been happy with other single serve pod type machines. I now realize it’s because, like many Keurig products, the machines just pump more water to make larger servings when requested. Nespresso offers pods specific to the different sizes, and the machines sense the codes and use the desired amount of water. So, each cup is full-flavored. I’ve been impressed with the quality of the coffee. and I am comparing to French press. Operation is so simple, you keep waiting for something else to do. But it’s push to turn on, push again to make. And it automatically dumps the used pod into the recycle bin the next time you open it. You just have to keep water in the tank and dump the recycle bin from time to time. There is a fascinating and somewhat overwhelming variety of roast, flavors and sizes. Fun to explore. But each flavor/grind has an associated volume, so you need only note the types you want. About $1.25 per cup. Yes, it’s high for drip, but cheap for barista (and the machine doesn’t expect a tip). But I was throwing out a fair amount of unused brewed coffee many days. I can’t imagine even a fairly picky coffee fan being disappointed.” — Gerald C.

“I bought this as a gift for my coffee loving wife. We usually a coffee maker that grinds beans, but my wife asked for this as a Christmas gift based on things she’s heard, but was not at the top of her list. I went ahead and bought it anyway and after using it non-stop since Christmas she is so happy with me that it may help me get on the golf course more when it warms up:-) She especially likes that the pods are recyclable along with how easy it is to use. There are a lot of different flavors to choose from. My wife is happy and therefore I am happy.” — Billywashere

Makes great cappacino and ice coffee. Nice variety of pod flavors, nice dispensing of pods you can even recycle and reuse pods with the covers you can purchase seperately. This is a very “beautiful”machine and makes great coffee. Easy functions, its nice to be able to be able to reposition the water resevior depending om where the machine sits. Make sure to measure your under cabinet before buying because the lid has to be able to come up to dispense and accept pods!. I recommend l love the machine. CON pricey machine, pricey pods, But you definately get what you pay for with this machine.” — Amazon Customer

“I waited to write this review after seeing some comments in other reviews that the machine enters a descaling mode and breaks about three months in. Well, I’ve had my machine since Christmas (gift to myself) and I’ve had no such problem. I’ve been enjoying my coffee ritual so much now that I also bought a milk frother, but not the nespresso branded one as that seems too expensive. I love that I can make any coffee drink I desire. I love the different size pods, and how you can program each pod size to brew a certain volume of coffee. My favorite pods are the alto pods, which is new with this machine. And I love that I can feel good about having “pod coffee” again with their pod recycling program. Now, about descaling. Last week, I descaled my machine for the first time and had no problems and the coffee is back to tasting like new. I thought the machine would warn me when it needed to be descaled, but 5 months in I never got the warning and figured I better be proactive. I’ve been using filtered water in the machine, so maybe that held off some of the buildup. I find coffee tastes better with filtered water anyway. But, the machine was getting noisier, and the coffee was starting to sputter when coming out of the spout, so I thought it might be time to descale. So I used one of their descaling packs and followed the directions in my manual. The machine did its thing and now I’m back to like new operation with less noise again and more flavor for about a week. I wonder if perhaps the problems people had are because the machine’s setting lets the buildup get too bad before prompting you to descale. Last tip is Nespresso has a wide range of coffee profiles, so I suggest trying sample packs (and always ordering your free 2-pack when ordering pods on the Nespresso site) to find the right flavor profile for you. I love this machine and love having my morning coffee now!” — Allegra Harness
