Devastated family of ‘honest’ man murdered by twelve-year-olds ‘heartbroken’

The family of a man murdered by the UK’s youngest knife murderers have told of their devestation and heartache.

died after being attacked with a 42cm machete by two twelve-year-old boys in a park in Wolverhampton last year. The two boys are the youngest killers in the UK since Robert Thompson and John Venables.

The sentencing for Mr Seesahai’s killers is taking place at Nottingham Crown Court and is due to finish today, Friday, September 27.

As part of this, a impact statement was read to judge Mrs Justice Tipples on behalf of the victim’s family.

In court, the UK representative for the family Dorothea Hodge, said: “We as a family are struggling in so many ways since Shawn was taken from us, especially in the horrific way he was taken.”

It also said that “losing a child is a parent’s worst nightmare.”

The statement continued: “We are devastated as a family, totally heart broken and confused.”

Shawn was described as a “humble, unique person”. He was also said to be “always confident”, “very honest” and a “a brave soul, generous and compassionate.”

The statement added: “We will always love Shawn and he will always have a special place in our heart.”

In  shortened sessions were held due to the age of the two boys. The family said the murder has taken a toll on “mental health, academic performance, and family finance”.

Seesahai died after being stabbed in the heart and suffering a skull fracture on Wolverhampton’s Stowlawn playing fields in November.

The two boys, both now ages 13, cannot be named for legal reasons, they were both convicted of the murder in June.

Mr Seesahai had come to the UK from Anguilla, in the Caribbean for an eye operation.

In court, Ms Heeley KC, prosecution in the case, said that the sentence should focus on rehabilitation. 

Ms Brand KC, defending one of the boys, said there is a “genuine expression of regret and remorse”.
