A dog behaviourist has shared a popular breed first-time owners should avoid if they want an easier start to looking after the pets.

Specialist Will Atherton took to and revealed the worst breeds for first-time owners to avoid, with his advice to those hoping to look after a pet.

Spekaing from Las Vegas, Will has been helping first time owners but highlighted a worrying “trend”.

He spoke of owners who had “amazing intentions” and while their heart is in the right place, it appears too tough a challenge for some first-time owners.

Will said those who are “rescuing dogs” are forgetting one crucial thing and it may prove costly in the future.

What’s the worst dog breed for first time owners? ?????? Are you guilty of any of these?

He said: “I definitely do see a trend of people with amazing intentions that are rescuing dogs which is absolutely awesome, forgetting that even with rescue dogs breeds absolutely do matter.

“And it is a difficult one because I absolutely love people that are willing to rescue dogs, but it’s counterproductive if you rescue a dog that you’re not capable of being able to manage because you haven’t built up that experience and skill yet”.

Will’s words of wisdom come as he does not want dogs or owners to have to go through the process of rescuing the dogs over and over. He says sticking to more comfortable breeds is a better scenario for everyone involved, and warned off guardian breeds.

Will continued: “With the boom in popularity of working line shepherds and working line malinois lots of them are ending up in rescue centres. Amazing people want to help rescue them, but they’re finding themselves way over their head in managing such a serious breed.”

Comments left on the post agreed with Will, with some suggesting easier breeds for first-time owners. One comment suggested a “Labrador” was a solid breed to start with as another user revealed they were struggling.

They wrote: “I have toruble with balance when walking so what would be a good puppy to keep me safe on walks?” Another user notede Malinois and huskies have to be near the top” of the list for first-time dog owners.
